Honouring Sacrifice
Southgate Sylvania invites the community to join us in a solemn remembrance this Remembrance Day, Tuesday 11 November at 11am.
This year we are proud to involve our local community in the annual ceremony, fostering a deeper connection between generations as we honour those who served.
The ceremony will feature a local student from Sylvania High playing the ‘Last Post’ on the bugler and another student reciting the Ode of Remembrance. We are especially proud to announce that the dedicated student has been diligently practicing since February, ensuring a truly moving and respectful performance.
This special community focused service will be held in front of Kmart, providing an accessible location for everyone to gather and pay their respects. Southgate believes that involving our youth in this important commemoration helps to educate and inspire the next generation about the significance of Remembrance Day and the sacrifices made for our freedom.
This is an ideal time for our community to come together to honour those who have served our country in times of war, conflict, and peacekeeping, and to remember their immense sacrifice and encourage all members of the community to join us in this meaningful event. Together we will observe the traditional two minutes of silence at 11am, a moment of quiet reflection to honour the fallen.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”
